Janelle Martinez Makes Art Work For Her

Picture
Janelle Martinez, an 8th grade student at St. Philip of Jesus Catholic School, placed second in the "Class of 2020"  art entry sponsored by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU). She received a two-year scholarship to OLLU and her artwork will be featured at the HACU conference in San Antonio next week.

Janelle is the daughter of Diana and David Martinez, parishioners of St. Philip of Jesus.  Janelle has been a student at St. Philip's since PK-3 and will be graduating from 8th grade this year.

Last Friday, after receiving the annoucement that Janelle had made it to the finals, the entire school community gave her a special blessing after our school Mass.  "This is truly a testament that God hears our prayers.  We are very proud of Janelle and her accomplishments," said Mrs. Ana Maria De La Portilla, principal.

St. Philip of Jesus Becoming an International Baccalaureate School

Picture
International Baccalaureate offers a continuum of high quality education that encourages international-mindedness and a positive attitude to learning.  It is a rigorous curriculum which prepares our students for the 21st century. It is a continuum of education, consisting of three individual programmes spanning the years from pre-kindergarten to a high school. The curriculum represents the best from many different countries rather than the exported national system of any one. High standards are maintained through active training and support for teachers.
The program is based on the belief that students must first develop an understanding of their own cultural and national identity. All IB students learn a second language and the skills to live and work with others internationally—essential for life in the 21st century.

The programme encourages a positive attitude to learning by encouraging students to ask challenging questions, to reflect critically, to develop research skills, and to learn how to learn. Community service is also emphasized because of the belief that there is more to learning than academic studies alone.

Next year will be the start of an exciting future for SPJ. We have a new vision, new direction and new goals. Together, we can equip our children with the skills necessary to navigate their futures well into the 21st Century.

Little Things Make a Big Difference

GoodSearch

Picture

Did you know that last year search engines generated close to $80 billion in revenue from advertisers? Did you know that up to fifty percent of the revenue can be shared with charities and non-profit organizations like St. Philip of Jesus School? Would you like to help the school share in some of the revenue?

It's simple. Go to www.goodsearch.com and set St. Philip of Jesus as your selected charity. Set GoodSearch as your home page and search the Internet as you normally do. Each search you make will generate revenue for the school. The more people use GoodSearch the more money will be raised.

There is no cap on how much money can be be directed towards SPJ. It is completely up to our supportive community. What do you say? Why not let every search you make be a GoodSearch...

Box Tops

Picture
We all shop for groceries, sometimes multiple times per week. Now turn those shopping trips into easy cash for our school. Just look for the "Box Tops" logo on hundreds of products like Cheerios, Hamburger Helper and Kleenex in almost every aisle of the store. All you need to do is clip them and send them in with your student. Each Box Top is worth $ .10 for our school.
